Hello and welcome! I'm Julia, an artist living in West Cornwall, surrounded by ancient landscapes and a vibrant creative culture. I'm particularly fascinated by prehistoric Cornwall - it's abundance of stone circles, hillforts and ancient field systems still shape how we see and connect with the land, and it's where I feel most at home.
My work is rooted in my background in Fine Art and Archaeological Illustration, and I'm deeply influenced by the prehistoric sites that shape Cornwall's identity.
I use drone photography and Google Earth images to uncover patterns and layers of history not visible from the ground (but ever present, much like our own histories). I then abstract these patterns into motifs layered over patchwork 'maps' that blend my love of surface pattern design and quilting into a celebration of our connection to place and history.
Combine this with my love language, colour, and you hopefully get a sense of what inspires me to create. I'm completely guided by, and obsessed with, colour psychology and knowing that each colour speaks to our emotions, carrying its own memories, meanings and moods, I can deliberately choose colours inspired by how a place makes me feel and the positive energy I want to convey in my work.
I want my art to make any space feel bright, welcoming and happy; believing colour has the power to uplift, energise and help us feel at home - wherever we are.
My hope is to inspire you to see, use and love colour like I do - as a superpower! - transforming your space and spirit.
Thank you for joining me on this journey through colour, history and home. If you'd like to explore my work further or discuss a commission, I'd love to connect.
